What is resin jewelry?
You will notice that sometimes resin jewel is referred to as epoxy resin. They are pieces and parts of jewels that you will finish making using epoxy. The resin then works using two components method.
You have to mix the resin and the hardener, then let it solidify and thus make the hard plastic. Most people like it because it’s usually crystal clear.
This doesn’t mean you can’t color it if you want. Additionally, you can add other elements to the jewel-like pearls and stones. Some people even add glitter pieces.
You can also mix the epoxy resin with the wood to make wood-like metal. This is the rarest method of making the resin remember.
The right kind of resin to use on the jewels
Our aim here is to make beautiful epoxy jewels, but for this to happen, you need to know the different types of resins.
So there are four types of resins you could buy in the shops to work with. And the significant difference between them is the composition of the resins.
Notice that the composition will influence the curing time and the processing as well.
More people are opting to go for DIY projects. Here we have a two-component resin that you can best use to create your jewelry.
It’s a little more expensive than the other versions, but it’s all worth it. This method is odorless, and yet it produces crystal clear results.
- Did you also know that it gets nontoxic once it’s cured?
- Note that it needs a longer time to cure because it’s low viscosity.
- It’s a further ideal choice to use when you want to create thick layers.
- It’s the best choice for you if you are using the method to make large objects.
This is now the most common epoxy resin method used today. Notice is very closely related to the casting resin. It even has two components.
The only difference comes in due to viscosity. This is, therefore, to say that its ideal for only the thin layers of thickness. Again this is a result of the chemical composition.
It will take a shorter time to cure. If you make the layer too thick, then it will make it cloudy.
Notice that this is cheaper to purchase, and you will like the fact that it hardens quick. The only problem is that it has a strong odor and sometimes it’s cloudy.
The epoxy resin will work for your molded parts. It’s ideal for your jewels but just to a certain level. Moreover, it’s not the very best since it won’t cure to crystal clear like the casting and laminating resin.
Here you have the best choice if you are a jeweler. You will find it easy to cure the resin even under a UV rays lamp. It will cure crystal clear, yet it produces no odor.
Now, remember, you can only use it if you are looking to make a skinny layer.
It will often work for most of the jewels regardless of the thin layer it forms. It even helps to create small jewelry products. If you like, though, you can use it for the multilayer curing. It will work if you are using them for embedding the little jewels.
You will realize that there are very many options that make silicone mold polish. Remember, therefore, that the resin jewelry production is natural. You can use them for pendants, brooches, or even earrings.

How to make resin jewelry at home?
You should gather all the necessary tools you need for the process first before you do any other thing.
If you need to use embellishments, remember to seal them. You need a special sealant for jewels and brush it over the tops sides and bottom of the feature. Let the coats dry for some time. This is a crucial step to seal the embellishment if you don’t, you will form bubbles.
Choose the kind of resin you will be using for the process. Choose your best flexible and durable silicone mold.
If this is not your first time, you should know the possible amount of resin you will need.
Mix the resin
Go on to mix half of the value you just calculated that you might need. Here you, therefore, have mixed resin and the hardener. I like to follow instructions on how to mix them because you want to develop the perfect consistency. Consequently, you should use a stir stick to make sure that you mix and scrap the sides.
If you desire a particular color, then this is the time to add it to the mixture. You should, however, use the liquid colors.
Molding the resin
Finally, pour this content in the mold, and if you need to use another mold, then you can. But pour the mix to half of the mold not full. You don’t want air bubbles to form, so you should be gentle through the process.
Now remove any air bubble that may have remained in before you do anything. You can do this by holding a hairdryer about 4 inches above the resin. Do that for a minute, and then all the air bubbles that are still in the resin will come to the surface.
Give it all 15 minutes: this is when the resin will harden just a little bit before you add the embellishment.
Use the tweezers to place the embellishment on top of the first layer carefully. Remember to place the embellishment upside down.
You can add them without using layers, but the embellishment will then move around.
Cover the embellishment with another layer of resin, and if you need to adjust the position of your resin with a toothpick, do so.
This is also the time to add glittery or sparkly embellishment if you like.
If you are going to use a paper background, then this is the time to add the paper over your mold.
Give the resin some time to cure
Set it aside as this will take 12-24 hours. But remember, the curing time will vary with the resin you are using. Remember, you don’t want the resin to cure fully, so keep checking.
Finally, pop it out of the mold, and it’s ready for you to use on your necklace or bracelet.
The next step is to drill a small hole on the pendant using a jewelry needle. Then set a rope or wire through the hole and form a small loop. Go on to add the pendant to your bracelet or necklace.
